The initial University Foundation

Concerned about the future of young people, king Carol I decided to establish "an institution for the benefit of university youth from all faculties in the country, which will provide students with a meeting venue, equipped with a library that is always open, where they can fulfill their love of study". These are words from the Letter that Carol I addressed on May 3, 1891 to his counselor Lascar Catargiu, president of the Council of Ministers, letter that is considered an authentic founding act and guidance for those who would later head the institution.
